New human H7N9 case reported in South-West China

Another human H7N9 avian flu case has been reported in southwest China’s Guizhou Province, health authorities said on Monday.

The Provincial Health and Family Planning Commission said in a statement that a 52-year-old man was diagnosed with pneumonia before testing positive for the H7N9 virus on Sunday.

According to the statement, the man, a native of Pingtang County in Bouyei-Miao Autonomous Prefecture of Qiannan, is a poultry vendor.

He is now receiving treatment in a hospital.

It is the second human H7N9 case reported in the province over the past 10 days.

A 49-year-old woman, also involved in the poultry trade in Qiannan’s Sui Autonomous County of Sandu, was confirmed to be infected with H7N9 virus on Dec. 31, 2016.
