ABA—The Ohuru Isimiri Police Division in Aba, Abia State has arrested two suspected swindlers, Uche Uzoma and Philip Nwachukwu, for fraudulently obtaining N900,000, from a Naval officer, one Commander Benedict Nwaokorie.

This came as the Police also recovered 16 heavy duty batteries and accessories belonging to a telecommunication company in Aba.

Police sources at the Ohuru Isimiri Division told Vanguard that the two suspects entered into an agreement to supply Seven Up products to Nwaokorie who serves at Akaso Barracks, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, but disappeared when they collected money for the contract.

Acting on tip-off, the Police traced Uzoma and Nwachukwu to Givers Hotel, Osusu in Obingwa council area, where they were arrested.

It was further gathered that a patrol team of the Ogbor Hill Police Division in conjunction with vigilante men in the area had recovered an abandoned Mitshibushi L300 bus with number plate ABIA, SSM 522 XA, carrying the heavy duty batteries.

On sighting the Police and Vigilante teams, the occupants had abandoned the bus and escaped into the bush. When the bus was searched, the 16 batteries and accessories believed to have been vandalized from a yet to be identified telecommunication mast, were recovered.

Abia State Commissioner of Police, Leye Oyebade, who paraded the suspects and the recovered items, said they will soon be arraigned in court while efforts are on top gear to arrest fleeing members of the syndicate.
