FAMILIES of a woman lawyer, Mrs Yewande Oyediran, who was accused of killing her husband, late Oyelowo Oyediran and that of the deceased, yesterday, clashed within the premises of an Ibadan Magistrate Court after the arraignment of the accused in an Iyaganku Magistrate Court.

A couple of months ago, eight armed men raided, Supper Cell Estate, an upscale residential estate located in Apo area of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, unleashing terror on its residents, killing two persons, including a pregnant woman. Two other victims sustained life threatening injuries. Among those injured, was the husband of the pregnant woman who lost his two legs during the robbery operation, with a middle-aged woman, Glory Uzoh, who relocated recently to Abuja, from Lagos State. The robbers shot at her twice; one in her abdomen and the other, on her arm. Uzoh, could not have been luckier as the bullet which penetrated her abdomen, also damaged her intestine, before pulling out from her back.

THE Supreme Court, yesterday, explained why it has not accorded any probative value on reports from Card Reader Machines that were deployed by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, during the 2015 general elections. The apex court, yesterday, maintained that though the use of the Electronic Card Reader Machine for accreditation of voters was provided for in the Approved Guidelines and Regulations for the conduct of the 2015 general elections, it said the device was never “intended to supplant, displace or supersede” the Voters’ Register.

PRESIDENT Mu-hammadu Buhari has revealed that his administration has within three months saved N2.2 trillion for the nation through the enforcement of the Treasury Single Account, TSA. The president made the revelation in London during a meeting with Nigerians resident in the city on Thursday night. A WITNESS, Mr Emeka Emelano, in the on-going trial of former Managing Director of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Patrick Akpobolokemi, yesterday told a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos that his company was used to obtain the sum of N72million from the agency. He also told the court that his company did not execute any contract for NIMASA to have necessitated payment of the money.

We have just been told that Nigeria has recovered $2 trillion in 12 years. National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has said that he did not call for the probe of Supreme Court judges over their verdict in favour of Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike. Odigie-Oyegun made the clarification in an interview with Saturday Vanguard in Abuja on Friday, said there was no need to do so since the apex court had not given any reason for its verdicts.

Pipeline vandals Thursday night , laid ambush on the Anti Pipeline Vandalism Joint Task Force, JTF in Arepo area of Ogun state, killing five operatives. The operatives were suspected to be naval personnel. As at yesterday , Vanguard learnt that only three bodies of the slain personnel had been recovered . The incident described as a reprisal attack, occurred barely 24 hours after the Joint Task Force, comprising the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Army and the National Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, had launched series of attacks at the pipeline vandalism syndicate in the area, which led to series of arrest and startling discoveries.
