A Chieftain  of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, Chief Sunny Onuesoke has reiterated that the panacea for successful diversification of Nigerian economy is constant energy and electricity supply.

Speaking to journalists in Sango-ota, Ogun State at a seminar, Onuesoke  argued that the bedrock of   any  dev-eloping country in the world is constant supply of power and energy, stressing that, ”If there is  constant supply of  electricity,  the crime rate in Nigeria will reduce drastically, because majority of the youths will go into skill acquisition sector hence there is hope of powering his small scale enterprise.

Onuesoke maintained that constant energy and electricity supply   will   increase industrialization and create employ-ment for the teaming jobless youths, adding that  it will be needless for the government to diversify if there is no solution to constant electricity supply.

To achieve constant electricity supply, he advised that   there is the urgent need for the introduction of energy mix for electricity supply to be broadened from the current two of hydro and gas sources  to seven sources which include hydro, gas, solar, wind, biomass/biofuels, coal and nuclear energy.  “A greatly expanded electricity supply regime for Nigeria will require a detailed assessment of the recent privatization of the nation’s electricity generation and distribution infrastructure.”
