Minna— Chairman, Senate Committee on Judiciary, Legal Matters and Human Rights, Senator David Umaru, has said the Senate has not taken a position on the confirmation or otherwise of Ibrahim Magu as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, as nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari.

He told newsmen in Minna, Niger State, yesterday, that the issue had never been discussed at the Senate plenary and, therefore, it was not possible for anybody to conclude that Magu had been rejected by the Senate.
According to him, “for anybody to conclude that he has been rejected must be a mistake because for me, I have not voted on the issue according to the rules of the Senate.
“The rule is that such nomination must be presented to us either by the committee or through direct interaction with the members in plenary.
“So far, none of these have happened. I am aware that the issue of Magu was discussed only in the executive session of the Senate and not at plenary.
“Anything done in the executive session is not the same thing as in the plenary. His nomination was never considered by the Senate. I repeat that the issue of Magu was never voted on in plenary.
“Magu’s nomination was never rejected but only referred to the Presidency.”
