Enugu State command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has busted a notorious marijuana syndicate operating in Awgu Local Government Area of the state, leading to the confiscation of 233 bags of cannabis.
The bags of cannabis were discovered at a warehouse where they were hidden.
Although the prime suspect, whose name was given as one Tagbo Nwafor, is said to be on the run, his mother, whom the agency described as an accessory, was reportedly in custody.
Inspecting the substance at the agency’s headquarters in Enugu, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State urged the NDLEA personnel not to relent in their commitment to rid the society of hard drugs.
Ugwuanyi said the cultivation and sale of hard drugs had been having adverse effects on the youths, who are the leaders of tomorrow.
He advised residents of communities where drug peddlers carried out their nefarious trade to assist security agencies in unmasking them.
