By Juliet Ebirim

Amid fanfare, the staff and students of Christ the King School (CKS), Lagos rolled out the drums last weekend to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the school.

The 3-day event kicked off at the school premises in Gbagada on Friday, 9th of December with a road-walk, football match and Christmas carol service; and ended with a thanksgiving and anniversary party on Sunday, 11th December, 2016. The Alumni day held on Saturday, 10th of December and it saw ex-students of the school from various walks of life, re-uniting at their Alma Mater.

Speaking during the event, the principal of the school, Mrs. S.B Aminu expressed delight at the journey so far for the school. Her words: “We are celebrating our unparallel achievements in the last twenty years which is as a result of our numerous sacrifices. But we are determined now more than ever to place the school at par with other high schools in the world.

We are aware that the hope of any nation is basically on the children and the quality of education they receive. We are in the vanguard of this crusade to restore hope to our troubled country and ensure that we deliver the future we will all be proud of”.

However, she added that it wasn’t all rosy at the beginning “ We’ve gone through some challenges in terms of population, infrastructure and so on, and we were able to overcome by the grace of God. We started with eleven students, but today we are more than three hundred. We also started with one building, now we have several buildings, about six of them with hostels.

We also had just one bus when we started, now we have ten buses. In terms of performance, we are also doing excellently well. We are one of the best ten in Lagos and we’ve won various awards. Our past students are excelling in various sectors of the economy.” she said.

The school boasts of state of the art learning facilities and well qualified teachers, having produced individuals and champions in various fields of endeavour.
