Jos—ELEVEN senior officers of the Nigerian Army and one Naval officer were, yesterday, decorated with their new ranks at the 3rd Division, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Rukuba, Plateau State.
The 12 newly-promoted officers consist of nine Army Colonels promoted to Brigadier General; one Navy Captain promoted to a Commodore, equivalent to Brigadier-General; and two Lt Colonel promoted to Colonel.
Among those promoted were the son of former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Adeboye Obasanjo who was promoted to the rank of a Colonel.
Speaking at the event, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, charged the newly-decorated officers to be loyal, disciplined and dedicated in giving their best to the country as promotion often came with more responsibilities.
Represented by the Commander, Operation Safe Heaven, Major General Nicholas Rogers, Buratai said: “We have no other nation than Nigeria.
“The nation needs your total commitment, especially with the current security challenges facing the country.
“This promotion comes through hard work. As you can see, not everybody within the cadres have been promoted. You must live up to the standard of professional military practices at all times.”
