In a bid to ensure that Nigerian students master the English Language, a Non-Governmental Organization, NGO, Inspiring the Future Initiative, has given out over 70 copies of Oxford dictionary to students of  Agidingbi Senior Secondary School, Ikeja, Lagos.

The project tagged “English Dictionary Project” was aimed at helping students in public secondary schools have access to their personal dictionaries in order to help improve their proficiency in English Language.

According to the Founder and Coordinator of the NGO, Kofoworola Bada, “Many students who attend public schools have parents and guardians that either cannot afford the money to buy dictionaries or do not know their importance.”

She stated that the dictionaries would help the students improve their communication skills and to have better understanding of English Language in general, urging the students to make maximum use of the dictionaries. Bada said that since the inception of the NGO, they had given out over 500 copies of the dictionary.

While presenting the dictionaries to the students, A Nollywood actress who graced the event, Mrs Yemi Oluyeju encouraged the students to be hardworking and studious, so as to have a bright future. She also urged the students to choose their careers carefully, adding that their choice of career should be driven by passion.

In her response, the Vice Principal of the school who identified herself as Mrs. Abass commended the NGO for giving out the dictionaries to the students of Agidingbi Senior School. She said, “I express my sincere gratitude to you (NGO). There is nobody that is above knowledge. All of us need dictionaries. We don’t know it all. There are words, pronunciation, spelling and syllables you don’t know about. The dictionary will help you in improving your English Language efficiency.
