ASABA—Delta State Government has called on parents, political, religious and community leaders to help strengthen immunization exercises aimed at eradicating polio in the state.
Speaking through the Commissioner for Health, Dr Nicholas Azinge, during a state-wide broadcast to commemorate the 2016 World Polio Day set aside to provide effective control of polio around the world, the government reiterated its determination to rid the state of polio disease.
He said: “The World Polio Day represents a chance to draw further attention to Global Polio Eradication.” He urged everyone, whether government, corporate bodies, charity organizations, or individuals, to contribute towards the termination of polio nationally and globally.
Disclosing that the theme for this year’s celebration is ‘End Polio Now’, he said Nigeria had made tremendous gains in polio eradication through concerted efforts to immunize all unimmunized children since 2006 in order to halt transmission of the Wild Polio Virus.
