Dangote sanctions 140 drivers, 70 docked

OKOJA—Dangote Cement Factory, Obajana, Kogi State, said, Monday, it had sanctioned 140 of its truck drivers over illegal haulage and reckless driving.

Head of the company’s Patrol and Monitoring Unit, Abdullahi Magaji, told journalists that 70 of the suspected drivers and their customers had been charged to court.

He said the patrol team was given the mandate by the company’s management to monitor the activities of its truck drivers. Magaji explained that the arrested drivers had form the habit of hauling products not emanating from the company.

He said the suspected drivers, having offloaded the company’s cement product to the prospective dealer, hauled other products for their personal ýgains, instead of returning to the factory empty.

Magaji, a retired Commissioner of Police, disclosed that all the company drivers were well paid, adding that there should be no reason whatsoever for any driver to embark on any outside job with the company’s truck or property.
