Board disburses N20m as grant to Islamiyya schools, organizations

Sokoto State Arabic and Islamic Education Board, has disbursed N20 million as grant to proprietors of some Islamic Schools, clerics and Islamic organisations in the state.

Alhaji Ahmad Baba-Altine, the Executive Secretary of the board, made the disclosure recently in a chat with newsmen in Sokoto.

He said that Gov. Aminu Tambuwal approved the grant two weeks ago.

He said that the money would assist the beneficiaries in running their schools and organisations.

“The grant is in addition to the monthly allowances being given to registered Islamiyya schools in the state.

“The aim is to boost integration of Islamic and Western education; the grant is given annually.

“Over 2,000 registered Islamiyya schools are benefiting from monthly allowances,” he said.

The Executive Secretary urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the money.

He said the government periodically rehabilitate and renovate Islamiyya schools across the state in addition to posting of teachers to such schools in critical areas of need.
