By Peter Okutu
ABAKALIKI— EBONYI State government weekend flagged off the verification exercise of local government area workers to enable it introduce the table payment system for the workers.

The measure was to curtail absenteeism and truancy among the workers at the local government level.

The state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Chief Samuel Okoronkwo who performed the flag-off exercise at Ohaukwu local government area of the state noted that the exercise was not to witch hunt anybody but to ensure that workers who are dedicated to their duties were paid their salaries  when due.

He noted that the exercise was in the best interest of the local government workers, adding that the state government was committed to uplifting the welfare of workers in the state.

Addressing the workers who came out in their numbers for the exercise, the Caretaker Chairman, Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Clement Odaah enjoined the workers to take the exercise seriously as government would no longer tolerate absenteeism and was not ready to pay those who do not come to work.
