Imo Assembly —The Imo State House of Assembly yesterday ended in a rowdy session with the Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Acho Ihim, adjoining the sitting indefinitely.
The drama started when the majority leader of the House, Hon. Lugard Osuji, raised a point of order on a motion which he said was signed by the twenty five lawmakers of the House, which prompted the Speaker to summon him in order to have an overview of what the motion was all about.
After the majority leader returned to his seat, he insisted that he would present the motion and the Speaker refused, a situation which degenerated to the level that the other lawmakers who were present started raising their voices in support of the majority leader, demanding that the Speaker should allow him present the motion.
When the Speaker saw that he could not control the tension or the pressure from the Lawmakers, he opted to quickly apply the gravel adjoining the sitting till further notice.
Prior to the drama, the Imo State House of Assembly had passed a motion urging the Governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha to sack his Commissioner for Community Government Council, CGC, Hon. Innocent Eke, alleging that his activities in the state was sabotaging the efforts of the House of Assembly in resolving crises in the communities.
The motion was raised by the member representing Ideato State constituency, Hon Arthur Egwim who is also the committee chairman on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Egwim said: “Mr Speaker, his activities within the communities have become an obstacle against all efforts made by this House particularly the House committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in resolving some of the crises in our communities.”
