Ambode, Nweke, Okonkwo call for restoration of value system

By Olayinka Latona,

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State; the Presiding Bishop of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission, TREM, Bishop Mike Okonkwo and former minister of Information and National Orientation, Frank Nweke, jnr, yesterday, called for restoration of the nation’s lost value system, saying the right value system will have a positive impact on the policies of the government and the nation.

They said this at the 17th Bishop Mike Okonkwo annual lecture with the theme: “The state of the Nigerian nation: Redefining our values”, held at the Muson Centre, Lagos.

Governor Ambode, who was represented by Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tunji Bello called on Nigerians, irrespective of religious, tribal and political affiliations, to join hands to build a strong, united and virile country noting that great cities and civilizations were never built in a day.

The guest speaker, Mr Frank Nweke said the “masses were expecting a lot from those in authority, but until the value system, preservation of personal and family values was restored, government could not do much.”

According to him, there is need to mobilize a national consensus on a national development philosophy which will underpin the nation’s socio-economic policies and development.

In his remarks, Bishop Mike Okonkwo blamed acts of terrorism, insurgency and other vices rocking the country on dysfunctional family values and value system.
