A 23-year-old man, Chukwu Darlington, who, with others still at large, allegedly stole two live turkeys in Lagos and ate same, has been released on N50,000 bail.

A Surulere Magistrate’s Court, which gave the ruling, also granted the accused one surety.

The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

He allegedly stole the two turkeys, property of the complainant, Solomon Agwuocha, who lives in the same neighbourhood with the accused, Sergeant Christopher Okoliko, the prosecutor, told the court.

He put the value of the turkeys at N35,000.

According to Okoliko, the offences were committed at 17, Ojoajeje Close, Sari-Iganmu on June 8.

Okoliko said: “Darlington and his gang killed the two live turkeys and ate them without the consent of the owner.

“The accused ran away after committing the crime.”

The offences contravened Sections 285 (1), 289 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011, as the offences carry jail terms ranging from two to three years, according to the said law.

The magistrate, Mrs M. I. Dan-Oni, has adjourned the case to September 13.
