Five Ladipo traders docked over alleged threat to kill

Lagos-Five traders at the Ladipo Auto Spareparts market in Mushin area of Lagos, were Thursday charged before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court over alleged threat to kill.

The defendants are Chidi Okafor 47, Oji Chima-Obi 41, Augustine Okafor 55, Jonas Mejulu 44 and Mike Obi 43.

They are facing a two-count-charge bordering on conspiracy and threat to kill preferred against them by the police.

The Prosecutor DSP Charles Odii told the court that the defendants and others who are still at large conspired to commit the alleged offence.

He said that the defendants on September 4, 2015, at 30 to 32, at Fatai Atere way in Mushin area of Lagos threatened to kill one Cyril Ejiogu.

Odii said that the defendants sent a threat text message to a phone number ‎08023926789, belonging to Ejiogu, threatening to kill him, knowing that the content of the text made the complaint to panic.

According to the prosecutor the offences committed is punishable under sections 409 and 230 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2011.

Earlier when the charge was read to the defendants, they all pleaded not guilty to the charge.

However the defendants counsels T. O Odo and P. E Sodje urged the ‎court to grant them bail in the most liberal term as the offences committed is a bailable offence.

Consequently Magistrate Mrs M. O. Ajayi granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each with one surety each in like sum.

She said that the surety must be credible ‎and their addresses verified by the Court.

The case was adjourned till August 16, for mention.
