PORT HARCOURT—Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, PHEDC, yesterday, called on the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, to fix the national grid to avoid constant collapse of the grid.
The call came on the heels of recent blackout experienced by PHEDC within its areas of operation.
According to the Head of Corporate Communications, PHED, Mr. Jonah Iboma, “There is need for TCN, to fix the national grid to avoid constant collapse of the system. In May 2016, the national grid collapsed five times, and this month the grid has started collapsing again.”
He noted that the major reason for the recent blackout within South-South region was due to some constraints from the national grid as well as problem of vandalism, which led to the destruction of most of the gas pipelines.
“The damaged nature of these pipelines has made it difficult for the distribution of gas to some power plants. Many pipelines have not been functional,” he stated.
