The Federal Government has ordered Standard Organisation of Nigeria, SON, to handover persons importing substandard products into the country to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for prosecution.

Acting Director General of SON, Paul Angya, told newsmen in Lagos that the practise and effect of substandard goods had become so alarming that government directed SON to hand over such importers, who he called saboteurs, to EFFC.

He said the era of seizing and destroying such goods were over and that anyone caught would be taken to Abuja and handed over to EFCC.

He stressed that 99 percent of all fake and substandard goods were imported, while about 60 percent of such goods got shipped into the country before the process for their form “M” begins, making it difficult to checkmate them through the SON Certification Assessment Programme, SONCAP.
