By Innocent Anaba

An Austrian businessman based in Nigeria, Wolgang Reinl, has initiated contempt proceedings against Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, over allegations of disobedience of the orders of an Abuja High Court, which ordered the commission to pay him N10 million for his unlawful detention for over two months.

Trial judge, Justice Peter Affen, had on April 20, after listening to the counsel to Reinl, Mazi Afam Osigwe in an application for the fundamental rights enforcement, held that the detention of the applicant at the EFCC’s office at Wuse 2, Abuja, from December 28, 2015 to February 5, 2016 was unlawful, unconstitutional and constitutes a gross violation of the applicant’s fundamental right to dignity of the human person and personal liberty.
