ENUGU—Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has assured that his administration would not sack workers irrespective of lack of funds occasioned by the prevailing harsh economic condition in the country.

Ugwanyi spoke when he visited the state headquarters of the Water Corporation, adding that government would also continue to pay salaries “because that is the only way to motivate the civil servants and reactivate the economy of Enugu State.

“Irrespective of the harsh situation in the state and the country at large, the government of Enugu state will continue to identify with the pains and suffering of the workforce,” he said.

Governor Ugwuanyi then released N100 million to the Water Corporation to enable it reactivate its dilapidated equipment and ensure steady water supply in the state.

He said that his administration would continue to provide enabling environment for organizations and people to enable them contribute their quota towards the development of the state.

Earlier, the state Commissioner for Water Resources, Mr. Charles Egumgbe noted that the state government would soon restore the past glory of the corporation, noting that Governor Ugwuanyi was in his office to interface with the management and  staff of the organization to enable him strategize on how to reactivate the corporation.

In a brief remark, the chairman of the corporation, Mr. Gabriel Attama asked the governor to come to the aid of the pensioners of the corporation whose pension had not been paid since February last year.

Attama aslo requested the governor to consider absorbing the staff of the corporation into the state civil service to alleviate their problems after retirement.
