THE second stage of the 2016 NPA Lagos International Polo Tournament will commence today with three matches in the Low Cup.
However, Polo buffs will be looking forward to the prestigious Majekodunmi Cup which is the most-lucrative trophy in Nigerian sports, as the winning prize money is N25m.
An exciting first stage of the high-class tournament came to a close on Sunday with Lagos Shoreline emerging the biggest winners after clinching the Open Cup at the expense of Lagos Caverton. Lagos dominance of the first stage was highlighted by Sao Polo’ win of the Dansa Cup against STL in an all-Lagos final.
The Kola Karim-led Shoreline also added the Oba of Lagos Cup which they won by beating Lagos Ashbert in the semifinal but they are in for a tougher challenge as few other teams are ready to knock them off the perch in the battle for the Low Cup. They will be competing as Goodfellows/Shoreline with Thomas Ussher +4, and Tobi Edun +2 teaming up with Kola 0 and Tunde Karim +1 in the team. Other teams that will battle for the Low Cup are Rojo, Samsung Rifugio, Smooth FM Polo, Agrovote, Zippy, Agad, MUK/Garages (all from Lagos) while Kano Siemens, Kano Agro Text, Ibadan Eleyele and Ibadan Oluyole will compete as the away teams.
