DESOPADEC: Udu youths give 7 –day ultimatum, threaten to shut down oil wells
ASABA- ANGRY youths of Udu , Udu Local Government Area in Delta State, have given the state government a seven-day ultimatum to address alleged marginalization of the area in the reconstitution of the board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, or they would shut down oil wells in their location. The union made the challenge in a letter dated September 1, to the Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, signed by the chairman, Comrade Sunday Subi.
Four killed in fresh Burundi unrest
At least four people have died in renewed clashes in Burundi, where tensions remain high following President Pierre Nkurunziza’s controversial re-election, officials and witnesses said Wednesday. Police and witnesses said clashes erupted overnight in several parts of the central African nation’s capital Bujumbura, with the night marked by sporadic gunfire and explosions. Police blamed armed “insurgents” for the violence.
