Yenagoa— Bayelsa State Government, yesterday, explained reasons for the delay in payment of November salary to workers in the state, saying it was due to delay in the sharing of monthly allocations to states by the Federal Allocation Committee, FAC.
The state government, through its Commissioner for Finance, Duate Iyabi, said though the delay in the sharing of the allocation to states was not political, the current administration’s effort to pay the salary before the election was due to the delay.
Iyabi, in Yenagoa said, the present financial woes of the state were further compounded by the fall in the sale of crude in the international market and the drastic fall in the state’s allocation from the Federation Account.
He said: “We are under tremendous pressure to pay salaries. Last month, N5.8 billion received helped us to pay workers salary but due to the delay being experienced, we have to look for alternative sources to pay workers salary.”
