Akure—DEPOSED Deji of Akureland, Prince Adesina Adepoju, yesterday, caused a stir in Akure, Ondo State capital, when he danced publicly through the streets five years after he was banished.
Adepoju’s public appearance was at the instance of a case he instituted against the new Deji of Akure and the state government at a state High Court sitting in Akure.
He drove in a convoy of vehicles to his family house located at Odo Ijoka in Akure metropolis.
Some members of his Osupa ruling house equally danced through the streets.
Adepoju had approached the high court challenging his dethronement by the state government and the installation of Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo as the new Deji of Akure.
The embattled prince claimed that he was wrongly deposed as the traditional ruler of the town by the state government and he is asking the court to declare him as the Deji of Akure.
He was dethroned on June 10, 2010 for allegedly assaulting his late wife, Bolanle, publicly.
Prince Adepoju was subsequently banished, following recommendation from an inquiry set up by the state government and the Council of Traditional Rulers.
He later relocated to the United States of America when the late Oba Adebiyi Adesida was installed.
After Oba Adesida joined his ancestors, his first daughter Princes Adetutu Adesida became the regent after which the new Deji Oba Aladetoyinbo ascended the throne.
The Chief Judge of the state, Justice Olaseinde Kumuyi who presided over yesterday’s case, adjourned further hearing on the matter till December 8.
