Organisers of the Aba Marathon slated for December 20 have revealed that this year’s edition will be fun filled even as the prize monies have been increased.

The marathon, which is the brainchild of Eziuche Ubani, journalist turned legislator, the Aba Marathon has grown from its humble beginnings to become a top meet in the calendar of marathoners and athletics buffs in Nigeria. The winner of the national and international edition will get $5000. The second place will take home $4500… third place $4000, fourth $3,500.

For Aba residents participating in the 2015 edition, the winner will smile home with ¦ 200,000, second place ¦ 160,000, third ¦ 150,000.

According to one of the meet managers, Adebayo Oluseye the 2015 edition will retain all the features that make Aba Marathon the nation’s number one marathon and incorporate other new features this will make this edition one that will be etched in the memory of the athletics family and sports lovers in general for a long time.

“Hon. Ubani understands the health benefits of exercise and keeping fit, so the essence of this marathon is to build a culture of daily exercise in our people. We have made tremendous progress, but there is still a lot more to do ‘’ said Adebayo.
