Melaye decries failed Obajana- Kabba road

By Ediri Ejoh

LOKOJA—The senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, has decried the deplorable state of Obajana-Kabba-Egbe-Ilorin road.

Melaye, who described the road as a major gateway to Kogi West, stated that the pitiable state of the road stemmed mainly from the constant movement of heavy duty vehicles from Dangote Cement factory at Obajana to various parts of the country.

He appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to make the reconstruction of the dilapidated  road a priority to ameliorate the plight of other road users who use the road daily.

The lawmaker, who made this known to Vanguard, pointed out that Obajana-Kabba-Egbe-Ilorin road was very vital in Nigeria’s road network, particularly as it linked travellers from South West geo-political zone to the Federal Capital Territory, the North and Eastern part of the country.

Melaye lamented the over use of the road by heavy duty vehicles and haulage trailers that on daily basis moved goods from Dangote Cement factory at Obajana to other parts of the country.

He also urged the management of the Dangote Cement factory to partner with the federal government to ensure urgent repair of the road.

According to him, it is a complete eyesore that such a critical road reputed as strategic and economically advantageous to national development and growth, linking Africa’s largest cement factory (Dangote Cement) at Obajana, over the years, has become a death trap due to long years of neglect.
