Kano—The Diabetic Patients’ Association of Nigeria, Kano branch, has advised diabetics to regulate their feeding during the Ramadan fasting period to avoid crisis.
Prof. Musa Borodo, Chairman of the Association, gave the advice during the association’s sensitisation lecture for diabetic patients in Kano.
Borodo disclosed that about 2 million people were living with diabetis in Nigeria and that people with history of diabetis in their family are likely to be patients.
He explained that it was important for the patients to ensure that they regulated their meals and medications during the Ramadan period in order to have a successful fasting, free from crisis.
Dr Muhammed Ibrahim, the Chief Speaker at the event, said about 300 million people were afflicted by the disease, globally.
He added that the figure would multiply in the next 20 years.
Ibrahim said that the ailment was common in developing countries where nutrition is highly unregulated.
