Malam Sanusi Lamido Ado Bayero on Wednesday assumed duty in Lagos as the new Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority(NPA). He took over from the former managing director, Malam Habib Abdullahi at a brief handover ceremony at the NPA headquarters office in Marina. Bayero was appointed as the new Managing Director of the Authority on April 29. In a brief address, the new managing director said he hoped to work at his best with the staff for the benefit of the nation.

Al Shabaab Islamist militants shot dead a government official in Mogadishu on Wednesday and, in a separate attack, bombed an African Union troop convoy outside the capital, police and a spokesman for the group said. Abdifatah Barre, the Deputy District Commissioner of Mogadishu’s Wadajir district, was shot dead in his car.

On May 9, the national senior female football team, Super Falcons and their Malian counterparts will lock horns in an all-important 2016 Olympic Games qualifying match at the National Stadium, Abuja. Both teams have become familiar foes having met during the qualifying matches of the 11th All Africa Games (AAG) in September at which the Super Falcons won 9-1 on aggregate.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday in Kaduna presented certificate of return to 33 members-elect for the Kaduna State House Assembly. The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Alhaji Hussaini Mahuta, presented the certificate to the legislators-elect. Mahuta advised them to always abide by the constitution and fulfill the campaign promises they made to their people.
