DELTA State Council of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, yesterday in Asaba, congratulated the state governor-elect, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and his deputy, Kingsley Otuaro, on their victory in the April 11 governorship election, saying Deltans were the true winners of the election.

State NLC Chairman, Williams Akporeha, in a statement, said the election of Senator Okowa as governor of Delta State was significant particularly for someone who started as a grassroots politician, served in his local government in different capacities before rising to the fore at the state and national levels.

“Indeed, the journey to Government House, Asaba, has been a long walk for you but we are very happy that with several years of commitment and loyalty you have convincingly conquered political distance and obstacles. Congress is aware of your antecedents in governance from the grassroots to Secretary to State Government, a senator and now the governor of Delta State. We have no doubt that the mantle of governance of this great state has found comfort and competence in your able hands.”

Akporeha expressed optimism that with the Okowa administration, Delta State will continue to cruise on a steady course to secure sustainable development where the dignity of labour remains sacrosanct.

He urged the governor- elect to embrace and cultivate mutual beneficial relationship with labour.
