THE Peoples Democratic Party,PDP,has protested the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC,to investigate the petition of the opposition All Progressives Congress,APC,against last Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections in Rivers State.

The representative of the Peoples Democratic Party at the Presidential Collation Centre, Mr. Godday Orubebe has faulted the claim by the chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attaihiru Jega that the People Democratic Party, PDP, did not submit its petition through the right channel of communication.

THE Senate on Tuesday adjourned plenary for lack of quorum to reconvene after the governorship and state assembly elections as well as the Easter break. The Senate will resume plenary on April 14.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appealed to all its members and supporters across Nigeria to remain calm and peaceful, and to resist all acts of provocation as they await the results of the presidential elections.

The Rivers government on Monday declared a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the state with effect from March 30. Mr George Feyii, the Secretary to the State Government, said in a statement in Port Harcourt that the curfew would be effective from 7.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m. and would subsist until further notice.

Gov Gabriel Suswan has lost in his bid to return to the National Assembly after an eight-year stint as governor of Benue state. Suswam was elected governor in 2007 after serving two terms as member of the House of Reps. Suswam lost to a former National Chairman of the PDP Barnabas Gemade, who contested under APC. Announcing the results on Monday at the INEC headquarters in Makurdi, the returning officer for Benue North East Senatorial election, Prof Mohammed Adah, said Gemade polled 140, 715 votes to beat Suswam, who polled 118, 603 votes.

The opposition leader Muhammadu Buhari has scored a narrow victory over President Goodluck Jonathan in Nigeria’s largest city Lagos, officials results from the country’s general election showed Tuesday.
