In a quest to reduce to the barest level the number of infant and child mortality caused by the deadly malaria disease, the Iba – Malaria Eradication Foundation (also known as Iba Foundation) has specially designed the One Child, One Net Project for the benefit of all children in Nigeria. This project aligns with the Nigerian National Malaria Programme and Goal number 6C of the Millennium Development Goals.

Malaria remains a serious and sometimes fatal disease which is widespread in many tropical and subtropical countries

There were an estimated 660,000 malaria deaths around the world in 2010, of which approximately 86% were children under five years of age. This is based on updated reports by the World Health Organization.

The One Child, One net Project is an annual project that will commence in April 2015 and is targeted towards 10,000 children annually. It is focused majorly on children in unreachable rural areas within and outside Lagos State.

According to the Founder and Executive Director of the foundation, Mr. Salu Adepeju, the project is one of many innovations to combat malaria by Iba Foundation having built a malaria mobile app available on Google Play Store, implemented the Kick Out Malaria Program since 2012 and also about to publish a malaria comic book.

“The main reason why we are starting this project is because Malaria still kills a child every second in Africa,” Salu added.

To widen the reach and positive impact of the organisation, Mr. Salu is asking individuals, organisations – private and public sectors – and most importantly media organisations to help spread the ‘One Child, One Net’ message as we all stand against the spread of Malaria and its prevalence in Africa.
