The Arewa House of the Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria has advocated a special Northern Education summit to address the declining fortunes of the sector in the region.
Director of the House, Prof. Abdulkadri Adam who visited the National Teachers’ Institute, NTI, said lamented the downturn in education in Northern Nigeria and suggested that urgent steps be taken by both state and non-state actors in addressing the ugly trend.
Prof. Adam who was recently appointed as the Director of the Arewa House, informed that the House needed the expertise and professional know-how of the NTI in contributing to the educational development of the North in particular and the country in general.
He noted that Northern Nigeria was facing grave challenges with the activities of elements that were antagonizing the education sector and that the region which was already disadvantaged could bear such retrogressive tendencies.
The Director acknowledged the success story of the NTI under the Dr. Aminu Ladan Sharehu led administration.
