Workers in Osun State are divided over a planned strike slated to commence in the state today following the inability of the state government to meet their demands. The Comrade Olatunji Akinyemi-led Association of Senior Civil Servant was reported to have led some members of the union to protest at the state secretariat, Abere on Thursday.
Akinyemi has, among other things, accused the state government of owing workers about five months’ salary, non promotion and problem in the contributory pension scheme. However, while speaking with newsmen, weekend on the issue, the Chairman of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Oladele Adetunji, faulted the planned protest by the Akinyemi -led union.
The TUC chairman who was supported by the state chairman of the Joint Negotiation Council, JNC, Comrade Bayo Adejumo, stated that Governor Rauf Aregbesola had explained to the union leaders during a meeting that due to the dwindling allocation from the federation account salaries may not be paid as at when due.
