Lagos—The All Progressives Congress, APC, has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to reinstate Wasiu Eshilokun as the candidate of the party for election into Lagos Island constituency 1 of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The party, in a letter to INEC, which was attached as exhibit to a suit by Eshilokun, challenging the substitution of his name, said: “We write to request for the reinstatement of our party’s substituted candidate, Wasiu Sanni, in respect of Lagos Island constituency 1 for the Lagos State House of Assembly.”
The party in the latter by its National Chairman and Secretary, John Odigie-Oyegun and Mai Mala Buni, with reference number APC/NHDQ/INEC/19/015/175 was date January 15, 2015.
Eshilokun, a former secretary of the APC in Lagos State, had polled 186 votes to beat seven other candidates for primaries election conducted by the party to select a candidate for Lagos Island Constituency 1.
Eshilokun’s name was substituted with one Hakeem Masha, who polled 70 votes.
Eshilokun in a suit before a Federal High Court in Lagos, challenged his substitution and is praying court to order his reinstatement as the candidate of the party for the poll.
At the resumed hearing in the matter before Justice Ibrahim Buba, yesterday, Masha’s counsel, informed the court of an application which he just filed and served on other parties to the suit challenging the service of the processes in the suit on his client.
He requested for more time to respond to a counter-affidavit filed in response to the said application by the applicant (Eshilokun).
