Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State has described his nomination by the management of Vanguard Newspapers as one of Vanguard’s Most Outstanding Governors from 2007-2015 as a ‘crowning glory.’
Akpabio, at the executive chambers of the Governor’s Office, Uyo, when the Chairman of Editorial Board, Vanguard Newspapers, Ikeddy Isiguzo, presented a letter announcing the award to the governor, thanked the management of Vanguard Newspapers for the honour and gift bestowed on him, noting that he was happy that the award was to be conferred on two governors who are of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, while one is of All Progressives Congress, APC.
He said that the award showed that PDP was a performing party and a party to beat.
Other governors who were also named as Vanguard’s Most Outstanding Governors from 2007-2015 were Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State and his Lagos State counterpart, Mr Babatunde Fashola.
The governor enumerated his achievements in the last seven and a half years to include construction of roads, an international airport, provision of electricity supply, building and completion of Akwa Ibom Tropicana Entertainment Centre, three star hotels in Uyo and Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom International Stadium and flyovers, among others, saying that the state has changed, and Nigeria has changed.
Akpabio, however, called on Vanguard Newspapers to preach peace and harmony through their publications and shun vile propaganda that tend to divide instead of uniting the country.
Isiguzo, who led a team of Vanguard editors and managers to the Governor’s Office, Uyo, congratulated Akpabio on the award and noted that the newspaper decided to honour him for the various achievements he has recorded since assumption of office.
Isiguzo said that many people who visited Uyo the state capital many years earlier could not recognise it again due to many infrastructural changes by Akpabio administration, noting “There is development, and life has also changed in the state.”
