Urban renewal: Experts chart the future of geospatial technology

A forum to showcase the tremendous applicability of geospatial technology in Nigeria and across Africa, organised by Office of the Surveyor-General of Lagos state, has ended in the nation’s commercial capital.

Declaring the forum open, Governor Babatunde Fashola explained that the state government has played a significant role in propagating the application of geospatial technologies in the country.

Represented by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Toyin Ayinde, Fashola stated that geospatial technology plays an essential role in addressing various governance and societal issues by enabling agencies to carry out their jobs quickly and more efficiently and provide relevant information to the right people, at the right time and place.

He said the state has also emerged as a key player in providing geographical information to the nation ranging from natural resources to agriculture and land management which have started to implement geospatial technology widely in their everyday operation.

Earlier, the Surveyor General of Lagos State, Mr. Joseph Agbenla disclosed that the forum would enhance collaboration within various agencies thereby resulting in smart and functional governance for the people of Lagos State, Nigeria and Africa in general.
