Etsako Rep seat: Auchi monarch told to be neutral

By Abdulwahab Abdulah

The Otaru of Auchi, has been advised to play a fatherly role to all aspirants in the forthcoming elections in Edo State, especially in his domain.

The advice came against the backdrop of a statement credited to the monarch, Alhaji H. Momoh, wherein he was quoted to have said that the two major political parties in Etsako, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, should make the Majority Leader of APC in Edo State House of Assembly, Mr. Philip Shaibu, their consensus candidate for Etsako House of Representatives seat.

He was said to have made the statement at  Uzairue where Philip Shaibu hails from while commissioning a school project said to be built by the Majority Leader.

President of Etsako Unity Club, Mr Aleakwe Ogbode, who gave the advice, said the club was of the view that in a democratic setting,  royal fathers were entitled to vote and if the need arises, support an aspirant/candidate but lacked the royal right to dabble into  advising the parties on how candidates should emerge.
