WARRI—VICE Chairman of Delta Waterways Security Committee and Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Warri South-West Local Government, Chief Boro Opudu, has chided Warri Ijaw Peace Monitoring Group, WIPMG over its threat of fresh Warri crisis, describing the group as “a kind of Boko Haram name existing on paper.”
The PDP leader, who spoke at his office in Warri, yesterday, said the identity of Chief Patrick Bigha, who purportedly issued the statement, was not known in Warri South-West, stressing that Ijaw and Itsekiri leaders were standing on the one tenure chairmanship power rotation agreement in Warri South-West.
He said: “The immediate past elected Local Government Chairman of Warri South-West, George Ekpemupolo and the out-going Transition Committee Chairman of the local government, Rev. Sam Kenenaghan are Ijaw. We are still standing on the gentleman agreement of one tenure each for Ijaw and Itsekiri.”
While declaring that Warri is in permanent peace and there is understanding between Ijaw and Itsekiri in Warri South-West Local Government, Chief Opudu admonished anyone having issues in the area to resort to dialogue rather than going to the pages of newspaper to make statements capable of truncating the existing peace in Warri.
Chief Opudu insisted that what the Ijaws of Warri South-West had been agitating for from the relevant federal and state government agencies was the creation of a separate state constituency to accommodate the Ijaw interest in Warri South-West Local Government and not any power sharing agreement regarding the existing state constituency currently being represented by Hon. Daniel Mayuku.
