Tribunal nullifies Kelle’s election

By Austin Ogwuda

Enugu—The Local Government Election Petition Tribunal in Enugu State, has nullified the election of Mr. Michael Kelle, representing Awgu Ward 1 in Awgu Local Government Area in the state   on the ground that there was a  breach in the election that brought him to office.

The tribunal, presided over by Mr. Umunna Ugwujas, while delivering judgment in petition No. EP/5/2013 between Felix Okwudirichukwu Ogbonna, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and Michael Kelle, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission, ENSIC, ordered ENSIEC to withdraw the certificate of return issued to the candidate of PDP and conduct a re-run election within two weeks.

It held that the election was nullified on the ground of substantial non-compliance with the Local Government Law of Enugu State 2004, election guidelines and manual, which non-compliance substantially affected the outcome of the election.
