A PEOPLES Democratic Party Governorship aspirant for Rivers State, Dr. Silva Opusunju, yesterday, outlined a seven point programme of action to reposition the state as a safe destination for habitation and re-industrialisation.
Opusunju, who hails from Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area in Rivers South East Senatorial District of Rivers State, told Vanguard that he was seeking the governorship ticket for the 2015 gubernatorial election based on “his experiences in private and public sector institutions, domestic and international spheres of human endeavours” which prepared him for the job.
Specifically, Opusunju said “he wants to make Rivers State a more united, better and safer place to live and work.”
According to the aspirant, he also wants “to ensure that the wealth of the State is channelled into the hands of Rivers man and woman through our local content policy.
The surest but painstaking way to secure a sustainable future, growth, jobs and opportunities is through deliberate policies of re-industrialization and entrepreneurship programmes consistent with the experiences in the 70s and 80s.
“No nation-state or people have achieved any modicum of greatness without excellence in industrialization, science, technology and innovation.
Our team believes that technological advancement is not the exclusive preserve of the West and its filial cousins and promised to re-inject and promote a culture of regular consultation and respect for the opinion of traditional institutions, elders and founding fathers of the State.”
