DUTSE—Jigawa State government  has constructed over 1,055 boreholes and 70 latrines for communities and schools across the state.

The projects were constructed in collaboration with European Union, EU, United Kingdom Department for International Development, DFID,  and the United Nations International Children Education Funds, UNICEF to reduce open defecation in the state.

The Managing Director of state Rural Water Supply Agency, RUWASA, Mr Labaran Adamu made this known in an interview with newsmen in his office in Dutse, the state capital.
He said that both the EU and the DFID worked through the UNICEF in the provision of these social amenities to some deserving communities and schools, adding that this was aimed at complimenting government’s efforts.

Adamu explained that 81 boreholes and 30 laterines were provided by the government in 2013, stressing that 220 bore holes and 40 blocks of Latrines were constructed  at both Malam Madori and Taura communities.

According to him, 20 of the latrine blocks were built for boys while the 20 others were also for girls by the EU and DFID through the UNICEF.
Adamu further explained that additional two boreholes were sunk by these agencies across the 27 local governments just as eight other local governments would benefit from about 500 additional new bore holes.
