Bauchi —PROPERTY worth millions of Naira were, yesterday, destroyed at the Federal Low Cost Housing Estate, a suburb, of Bauchi State by downpour, which flooded streets and houses.
The downpour, which lasted several hours, destroyed a multi cell culvert along federal low cost bye-pass, and caused heavy traffic that trapped hundreds of motorists plying the road.
One of the victims was a widow, Martha Austine, who had her compound and car submerged.
Another victim, Adullahi Dauda, lamented that the flood destroyed his shop and goods, saying: “The downpour lasted about three hours, but the impact was quite disastrous because almost the entire area was flooded.
“I am appealing to the state government to urgently come to our aid and re-construct the affected culverts to restore communication and commercial activities in the area.”
Reacting to the incident, Commissioner for Special Duties, Muhammad Dhamina, said the culvert in the state which was constructed by the past administration was washed away by the continuous downpour over the years.
He called on the affected communities to bear the situation, pointing out that his ministry would take the necessary step to address the issue on time.
