WESTERN powers have officially agreed to coordinate their efforts in reinforcing Nigeria’s campaign against the immediate threat of terrorism spearheaded by the Islamist militant group Boko Haram.

The final conclusions of a security summit held in France on Saturday resolved among other things that the United States, Britain, France and the European Union will synchronize their regional cooperation through technical expertise, training programmes and support for border monitoring.

A statement on the conclusions of the summit released yesterday said participants including from those West and Central Africa committed themselves to accelerating the implementation of international sanctions against Boko Haram, Ansaru and their main leaders, within the United Nations framework as a priority. Mechanisms for border surveillance, a system to pool intelligence to support this operation and a system for information exchange on the trafficking of weapons were some of the resolutions made at the Paris summit.
