Group flays fraud allegation against Delta Scholarship Board

BY FESTUS AHON

UGHELLI—A  group, Delta Youths for Qualitative Governance, DYQG, has described as mischievous and frivolous, allegations of fraud being peddled in some quarters against the Delta State Bursary and Scholarship Board.

The group, in a statement, said that the allegations were baseless “and therefore, should be dismissed with a wave of the hand.” It described those behind the unfounded allegations as blackmailers.

It said that “the unfounded rumours are only out to tarnish the image of the board because of its resolve not to compromise the laid down guidelines in determining those who are qualified to benefit from the board’s Students Special Assistance Scheme and other programmes of the board.”

The Chairman of the group, Mr. Sylvester Ugo, said: “Having carried out our investigations in some of the tertiary institutions, it was revealed that some of those disqualified from benefiting from the student’s assistance scheme were those found not to be bonafide students of their institutions. Others were either non-Deltans or have graduated long ago.”

Saying that the state Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Hope Eghagha and the Board’s Secretary, Mr. Peter Amromanoh, have been piloting the Board’s affairs to the admiration of all Deltans, the statement added: “It is very clear that the allegations are being sponsored by those who are envious of the unprecedented achievements of the board in helping to drive the human capital development programme of the state government.”
