BENIN—EDO State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has called on the National Judicial Council, NJC, to investigate the judgment which was delivered by the Edo Local Government Election Appeal Tribunal, upholding the election of Mr. Sam Oboh of All Progressives Congress, APC, in the disputed chairmanship election of Esan North-East Local Government Area of the state.
The state chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, who made the call at a rally to welcome defectors from the APC to the PDP in Igarra, headquarters of Akoko Edo Local Government Area, said the biggest concern of his party was that the judiciary had been drafted into the politics of the state.
He said the judiciary in the state was sick and appealed to the NJC to immediately intervene before it collapsed completely.
The party chairman also joined the Nigeria Bar Association NBA, in condemning the use of judges by the state government in the collection of taxes from the citizens.
He insisted that two of the judges who sat on the case— Justice J. I. Acha and O. Edigin—were not qualified to handle the case, but that the judges refused to disqualify themselves, upturned the judgment of the tribunal and gave victory to APC.
He promised that in the months to come, the APC government will have been completely annihilated as it would only be left with commissioners and council chairmen.
