THE Christian Health Association of Nigeria, CHAN, has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to assent the2014 National Health Bill, and to ensure that CHAN and its member institutions are assigned definite roles with clear targets in contributing to the actualization ofits provisions.

Making the call in Abuja, CHAN Secretary General, Dr. Daniel Gobgab, reiterated the contribution of the church-sponsored health facilities in provision of health care to the poor and vulnerable segment of Society.

“We are here to seek ways to improve the resources that flow into the church health sector to further ensure that CHAN plays a pivotal role in the actualisation of Universal Health Coverage as provided for in the recently passed Health Bill.”

Gobgab, who spoke recently at a strategy session in Abuja to avail stakeholders of the essence of advocacy, said institutions were legacies established by missionaries while propagating the gospel and healing ministry.

“Today, like yesteryears, the contribution of member-institutions to the health of Nigerians is notable. To that extent, about four out of every 10 Nigerians assess health services from our over 450 member institutions with over 4000 health posts scattered across Nigeria. This makes CHAN a strong ally to the government in the health service delivery system,” Gobgan stated.

Director of Advocacy and Information Management System, CHAN, Mr. David Omorebokhae who disclosed that the organization had been championing the cause of advocating for better health of Nigerians at the grassroots among its member institutions since the strategy was launched in 2003.

“Advocacy is taking action to help people say what they want, secure their rights, represent their interests and obtain services needed.
