The senator representing Enugu East zone and Chairman, Senate Committee on Communications, Gilbert Nnaji, has debunked reports alleging that he was planning to step down for former governor of the state, Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani, to return to the Senate.

He described the reports as falsehood and purely a representation of the figment of the perverted imagination of the author.

Consequently, Nnaji declared his interest to contest for a second term in office at the upper legislative chamber.

He noted that he had severally made known his interest to submit himself to his party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and people of Enugu-East senatorial district for their kind consideration by way of mandate renewal to continue with his people-oriented representation.

He said: “My attention has been drawn to a recent newspaper report alleging that Senator Gilbert Nnaji has dropped his ambition to re-contest for a second term in the Senate and may be supporting former Governor Chimaroke Nnamani whom he, Nnaji, floored in 2011 to go to the Senate.

“This is a complete falsehood and purely a representation of the figment of the perverted imagination of the clearly compromised author.”

Senator Gilbert had severally made known his interest to submit himself once again to the party, PDP and the good people of Enugu-East senatorial district for their kind consideration once again, by way of mandate renewal to continue with his people-oriented representation.

The lawmaker said even though he was not in any way willing to be distracted by the antics of what he described as disgruntled jobbers who had apparently muzzled their conscience and had greatly undermined the agenda-setting role of the media, he had continued to demonstrate his understanding of the difference between governance and politics.

“Since the people that I represent are obviously satisfied with my performance and as a result have been clamouring for me to serve them again, I have since graciously accepted to offer myself for their mandate renewal,” he stated.
