Digital Africa, policy makers to meet

IT is often said that Nigerians are heavy consumers of technology, but hardly produce any.

However, for a country to truly succeed, experts say that production must at least be equal to consumption. This is why policymakers from executive, legislative and regulatory arms of government in Nigeria, and thought leaders in technology will deliberate on transiting Nigeria and Africa from a passive consumer to a dominant innovator and producer of technology at the 2014 Digital Africa Conference & Exhibition, slated for May 20-22, 2014 in Lagos.

The event hosts alongside the 19th World Electronics Forum (WEF) at the same venue.

It is the first time WEF will hold in Africa. World Electronics Forum brings together CEOs and Directors of the global electronics industry associations from the USA, China, Japan, Germany, Britain, India, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Australia, Russia, Brazil, Philippines, and Vietnam. The 18th edition was hosted by Vietnam in 2013, the 17th edition was held in Philippines in 2012, and the 16th edition was hosted by USA in 2011.

Dr. Evans Woherem, Chairman, Digital Africa Global Consult Limited, organisers of the Digital Africa Conference and local host of the 19th World Electronic Forum said: “Despite improved access to technology, Africa still dominates the bottom list of countries with significant gaps in connectivity due to inadequate development of information and communications technology infrastructure, and the poor skill levels that inhibit the efficient use of the available technology.”
