Dangote Cement Plc yesterday dispelled insinuations that the 42.5 high quality grade cement it just introduced into the market could cause cracks in buildings and eventually lead to building collapse.
The Group Managing Director of Dangote Cement, DVG Edwin, at a briefing, yesterday, at the company’s head office in Lagos, expressed regrets over the misinformation going on in the public and wondered why some manufacturers would intentionally discredit the higher cement grade, just for the purpose of profit maximisation.
He said: “Although we want to make profit as a company but not at the cost of human lives. We want to make profit, but we will never indulge in profiteering because we are guided by principles which we strictly adhere to. We will never compromise the lives of the people.
“There is a lot of misinformation going on in the country. A lot of these unscrupulous operators try to state that a lower 32.5 cement grades give higher strength than the higher 42.5 grades. This is ridiculous and laughable.
“There is nowhere in the world where a higher quality and a higher grade product will perform less than a lower quality product.”
He challenged competitors to produce evidence of SON’s certification authorising them to produce 32.5 grades.
